TEMPLE BAR LONDON

Temple bar was the triumphal arch between the City of London and
Westminster associated with the famous ceremony of the state entry
of the sovereign to the City. The classical archway in Portland
stone, designed by Christopher Wren, stood between Fleet Street
and the Strand. It was removed from its original location due to
it being a nuisance to traffic in 1878 and now, after
a century as part of a private estate in Hertfordshire, has been
returned to London as part of the Patermaster Square development.
After a limited design competition, Fairhaven of Anglesey Abbey
were chosen to recreate the heraldic carvings that originally decorated
the building but have since been lost.
