Great Gate, Trinity College, Cambridge. c.1630
Heraldic devices were dry-cleaned, followed by localised re-gilding
and touching-in using an acrylic co-polymer dispersion and light-stable
pigments. These were matt varnished using the same medium but with
anti-oxidants and ultra-violet light corrosion inhibitors for non-yellowing.
The great oak doors were dry-cleaned with soft brushes and glass
fibre bristles together with vacuuming. New green oak inserts were
patinated with natural sepia pigments.
The gates were waxed with a Cosmolloid/Ketone mix with corrosion
inhibitors added, to allow the beauty of the aged oak to be kept,
whilst giving protection from the environment.
