We undertake restoration work on churches, colleges, Listed buildings
and monuments.
Masonry restoration encompasses many aspects of the prevention
and arresting of decay. Repointing, cleaning, limewashing and mortar
repairs are all traditional techniques used by masons on site. For
such operations, our masonry restoration team works closely with
our Conservation Department which provides analytic services and
the management of specialist techniques such as poulticing and consolidation.
Where necessary, stone is also replaced, particularly where it is
most exposed to decay, such as on copings, string courses and other
mouldings.
Replacement stones, masoned or carved, are carefully matched and
produced in our workshops for delivery to site and fixing.
We have teams of experienced fixer masons who specialise in the
cutting out of defective stonework and its refixing.
Few restoration projects involve only one type of building craft.
Consequently, we can act as main contractor and have the experience
and knowledge to oversee the specialist sub-contractors normally
involved with our craft such as carpenters, lead-workers and bricklayers.
